The AEGIS Physical Intervention & Restraint Programme for Retail Security Guards is designed to ensure a customer focussed, professional response by staff in situations that develop into a need to physically intervene. This training is delivered in two parts.

Part 1:

AEGIS PI Training for Retail Security Guards:

Part 1 of the AEGIS programme conforms to the SIA's specification for Physical Intervention Skills training for Security Operatives (i.e. Escorting & Disengagement Skills) and, in addition, also incorporates essential training in Horizontal Restraint (i.e. on the floor).

The focus of the training in Part 1 is on:

Ensuring delegates are aware of the legal and potential medical implications surrounding use of force
Showing measures they should take to reduce risk
Discouraging the use of high risk restraint techniques
Teaching low-impact, low-risk techniques

Assessment:
Delegates must complete a multiple choice question paper examination set by the Awarding Body (23 questions). The pass mark is 100%. After tuition, delegates will also need to demonstrate competency in the application of the physical intervention skills learned.
Certification:
This Training is quality assured and Certificated by Highfields Awarding Body.

Candidates that successfully complete this course will, in addition, also qualify for an AEGIS Certificate that reflects that they have exceeded the training requirements set by the SIA and have achieved the higher standard of competency required by AEGIS (and the HSE).
Course duration:
Part 1 is a 1.5 Day training course that involves (as per the SIA Specification), a minimum of 12 hours of classroom training.
Trainer to student ratio:
In line with the SIA Specification, the trainer to delegate ratio is restricted to no more than 1:12.

Part 2:

Part 2 of the AEGIS Programme builds on the learning in the Part 1 course and teaches a range of incrementally more robust and restrictive interventions including the use of Emergency Restraint Belts (ERBs).

Note: To be eligible to attend this training, delegates must already have successfully completed Part 1.

The focus of the training in Part 2 is on:

Reinforcing and developing the knowledge and skills learned in Part 1
Teaching additional skills and strategies for managing, holding, controlling and calming violent Service Users
Ensuring delegates are skilled and competent to safely apply Emergency Restraint Belts if it should become necessary
Developing delegates' self-confidence and ability to implement the training (practice applying them in a variety of realistic scenarios)
